Apple today issued a statement mentioning the number of pre-orders they received via the Apple website for the iPhone 5. The numbers are off the roof, Apple sold a record breaking 2 million iPhone 5′s in the first 24 hours of the pre-order date.
To give you an idea on how many that is; when iPhone 4 was launched the pre-orders topped 600,000, when iPhone 4S got released the pre-orders topped 1 million and now, iPhone 5 has topped 2 million pre-orders!
If you do the maths that’s about 24 iPhone 5′s being sold every second for the next 24 hours! And, here people were saying it was a disappointment.
CUPERTINO, California—September 17, 2012—Apple® today announced pre-orders of its iPhone® 5 topped two million in just 24 hours, more than double the previous record of one million held by iPhone 4S. Demand for iPhone 5 exceeds the initial supply and while the majority of pre-orders will be delivered to customers on September 21, many are scheduled to be delivered in October.

Apple Officially Reveals The iPhone 5: LTE, 4-Inch Retina Display, New A6 Chip, Lighter Than iPhone 4S
And just like that, months and months of breathless speculation have finally come to an end. Apple’s Phil Schiller has just officially announced the new iPhone 5 at the company’s massive press event here in San Francisco, less than a year since its predecessor was unveiled.
Some of the news won’t come as much of a shock considering the sheer volume of rumors and leaks lately (even Apple let some details slip earlier today) — I’m going to resist the temptation to pontificate on every new feature as it’s revealed (for now, anyway), so let’s get right down to it.
Eventually, after a long and meaningful journey, we have reached our destination and it is the launch of iPhone 5 by the Apple. Numerous leaks, claims and rumors came in our way that helped us to form an image of the most awaited product of the year. But now when we have reached the Mega event so let’s talk about the real featuresof the phone that are approved by the company itself.
The new iPhone is loaded with lots of stuff that adds to the newness of the phone. The most noticeable changes are the big iPhone screen and the back of the phone that is a combination of glass and metal.
The 4-inch screen of the phone, with a resolution of 1136 x 640 and a pixel density 326PPI, is taking the experience of the phone to a complete new level. And this change in the display size of the phone is definitely going to complement the apps that are going to be downloaded in the phone, especially the games that can be played more easily and the videos that appear are without letterboxing.
The fruit company has particularly worked on the thickness and the weight of the phone, which are now comparatively much low when seen to the respect of the iPhone 4S. The weight of the iPhone 5 is just 112 grams, that is 20% lighter than the iPhone 4S and is also the thinnest smartphone up til now, with a thickness of just 7.6mm. The next most prominent alteration in the phone is the back screen of the phone, with two tones.
If you are more interested in the specifications of the phone then here are, as the next-gen iPhone is having a a quad-core A6 processor, with 1GB of RAM. This again brought Apple to the top in terms of the processor, when compared to the android phones. Furthermore the phone is also loaded with 4G LTE, as this was being claimed. THE IPHONE 5
We can finally put the debate to rest — Apple’s newest mobile juggernaut is called the iPhone 5 (despite actually being the sixth iPhone to hit the market). It’s 20% lighter than the iPhone 4S, 18% thinner, and crafted out of (what else?) glass and aluminum.
The long-rumored (and handsome) two-toned design is indeed legitimate, as is the new iPhone’s larger 4-inch Retina Display. And yes, that 16:9 display runs at 1136 by 640 with five rows of icons. According to Schiller, it’s “the most accurate display in the industry” because the touch sensors are embedded in the display as well.
It’s hardly a surprise at this point, but the iPhone 5 packs support for Sprint, Verizon, and AT&T’s LTE networks here in the States.
As expected, Apple has also unveiled a brand new chipset for the iPhone 5: the A6, which Schiller says is a full two times faster than the A5 chip in the iPhone 4S
The iPhone 4S’s battery life wasn’t anything to write home about, but the iPhone 5 seems equipped to do much better — 8 hours of 3G talk time, as well as 8 hours of 3G and LTE web browsing to be precise.
The iPhone’s audio system has been bolstered with a smaller (but improved speaker). There are also now three microphones in the mix: one on the front, one on the back, and another on the bottom.
That oft-rumored miniature Dock Connector is real: it’s all-digital, has eight pins and it’s called “Lightning.” Yes, there’s an adapter for it, but no word yet on exactly what it will cost you.

CAMERA
Smartphone cameras are really starting to give their point-and-shoot brethren a run for their money (think Nokia’s PureView and HTC’s ImageSense tech), but instead of running up the megapixel count, Apple has stuck with an 8-megapixel camera. That said, the backside-illuminated sensor is smaller, and features much better low-light performance (finally!).
App developers may be bummed to know that the camera now also has a built-in panorama mode. The revamped camera also supports 1080p video capture, and users can now snap photos while recording video at the same time. I wonder how HTC feels about that.
First-Party Apple Apps Optimized For iPhone 5 Display, Existing Apps Will Run Letterboxed
Apple’s iPhone boasts a taller screen, as rumored, and that means basically an extra row’s worth of information in terms of the home screen. That’s going to result in some changes in the design language app-makers have to speak, but Apple’s already updated its first-party apps in order to give devs a roadmap.
iWork, iMovie, and Garageband, as well as all the stock apps that ship with the iPhone, are now designed to take advantage of the change by providing extra information. For existing third-party apps, there’s a compatibility mode that will letterbox content, displaying black bars on either side. It’s better than just stretching things in terms of providing a pleasant, consistent user experience.
“But what about the App Store apps?” Phil Schiller, Apple senior vice president of worldwide marketing, asked on stage. “Well here’s an app that hasn’t been updated. It runs at the same size. We center it and place black borders on either side.”
A stretched display brings the iPhone closer to a 16:9 resolution than its 4:3, good for video and movie playback. The change should also help us see some interesting additions from developers as they look to update their apps to take advantage of the new space.
The iPhone 5 Comes With The New “Lightning” Connector
The iPod dock connector was built in in every iPhone and iPod (except the iPod Shuffle) since 2003. But Apple finally upgraded the port to Lightning for the iPhone 5 at the press conference today. It is an 8-pin port that transports only digital data and is 80 percent smaller. Even though many things are now done wirelessly thanks to AirPlay, Wi-Fi syncing and other technologies, the connector is still indispensable.
Durability was improved, it is reversible and therefore easier to use. But what about all your old accessories? Apple will sell an adaptor to allow you to plug your old accessories.
In a video, Apple stated that the new connector was needed to free up some space inside the device and to make the iPhone 5 smaller.
Apple did not give many details and quickly went to the next topic. We are still left wondering what the new connector is capable of aside from charging your device. Let’s just hope that the new connector is here to stay for the next ten years.
iPhone 5 Pricing And Availability Revealed: $199 For 16GB, $299 For 32GB, $399 For 64GB, Ships On Sept. 21
Now that everyone’s appetite for the iPhone 5has been whetted, when can people actually get one? Apple’s Phil Schiller took the stage after playing a brief video to talk up the new iPhone 5 to finally talk about availability.
The pre-orders for the device itself beings on September 14 (that’s Friday, in case you were curious), and the iPhone 5 will actually be released into the wild on September 21.
As usual, the iPhone 5 will be available in both black and white, and it will be the same price as the iPhone it replaces: $199 for a 16GB model, $299 for a 32GB model, and $399 for the big 64GB variant. Please note that’s strictly on-contract pricing through partners AT&T, Sprint, and Verizon, though I wouldn’t imagine there to be a huge difference in the unlocked prices of these things when they become available. Of course, if the sales performance of previous iPhones is any indication, the initial run of iPhone 5s should get blown through pretty damned quickly.

KARACHI: 289 lives were lost in a horrific fire which engulfed a garment factory located in Baldia Town.
At least 1,000 workers were present inside the factory at the time of the fire to receive their salaries.
Eyewitnesses tell a horrific tale of what transpired in the factory after the fire broke out. Three of the four doors of the factory were closed to avoid theft on salary day and the lights were shut off.
Several workers of the factory were injured as they jumped out of windows of the four-storey building in a bid to save their lives.
Mohammad Saleem 32, who broke a leg after jumping out of the second floor, said he and his colleagues were hard at work late Tuesday.
“It was terrible, suddenly the entire floor filled with fire and smoke and the heat was so intense that we rushed towards the window, broke its steel grille and glass and jumped out.”
The incident has raised concerns about workplace safety as the factory did not have any emergency exits.
Arriving at the factory, Karachi Fire Chief Ehtesham Salim said the building was flimsily built and had developed cracks in the walls which put the life of rescue workers at risk.
“It is packed like a box with little room for ventilation. There were no emergency exits,” Salim said.
The fire has been described as the biggest the city has witnessed in decades as all fire tenders in the metropolis were rushed to the factory, along with teams from the Navy and Air Force.
The cause of the fire to this point remains unknown but according to Sindh Industry and Commerce Minister Rauf Siddiqi, an inquiry has been ordered into how the fire erupted and why proper emergency exits were not provided at the factory.
Speaking to Geo News, Roshan Ali Sheikh the commissioner of Karachi said the fire had caused severe damage to the factory which could collapse at any point. According to Roshan an investigation report of the incident would be completed within three days.
Case lodged against owners, management
A murder case has been lodged against the owners and management of the garment factory and according to Sindh Information Minister their names have been placed on the Exit Control List (ECL).
The factory’s allotment has also been cancelled.
SHC issues notices
The Chief Justice of the Sindh High Court (SHC) Mushir Alam has taken notice of the garment factory fire in which 289 workers were killed.
A petition was filed in the SHC over the horrific fire following which notices were issued to Secretary Labour, Municipal Commissioner, Deputy Attorney General, IG Sindh Police, DG Rangers and the Building Control Authority.
Production in charge records statement
The production in charge of the garment factory has recorded his statement.
The production in charge in the statement said the fire broke out at approximately 6:30PM on Tuesday.
At 2:30PM the electricity went out at the factory following which the generator located on the ground floor was turned on. When the electricity supply resumed at 6:30PM, two to three explosions were heard from the location where the generator was kept following which the factory filled up with smoke.
The production manager added that after the smoke had filled the filled the factory he came out but people were trapped inside.
MQM announces 3-day mourning
The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) has announced three-days of mourning on the tragic deaths caused by the blaze in the garments factory.
The decision was taken in a joint meeting of the Co-ordination Committee in London and Pakistan.
CM Sindh announces compensation
Chief Minister Sindh, Syed Qaim Ali Shah has announced compensation for the families of the victims and those who were injured.
Rs300,000 will be given to the families of the victims while Rs50,000 has been announced for the injured.
